Japan’s Shinzo Abe, Former Prime Minister, Is Assassinated

TOKYO—Shinzo Abe, a former Japanese prime minister, died after being shot Friday throughout an election marketing campaign rally, sending shock waves by a rustic unaccustomed to gun violence.

Police arrested a 41-year-old man who they stated approached Mr. Abe from behind as he gave a speech within the metropolis of Nara and fired twice with what gave the impression to be an improvised firearm. A health care provider who handled Mr. Abe stated he had gunshot wounds close to the bottom of his neck and one bullet pierced his coronary heart.
