High-Ranking Afghan Officials Escaped to Luxury Homes Abroad


WASHINGTON—Some senior Afghan officers and their households spent thousands and thousands buying costly properties within the U.S. and overseas in the final years of the war, which grew to become luxurious landings once they escaped the escalating violence in Afghanistan.

According to a Wall Street Journal evaluation of public paperwork, interviews and different information, some officers who held prime jobs throughout former Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani’s tenure, which began in 2014, now live in mansions alongside California’s coast. Abroad, clusters of former officers and lawmakers reside in main European cities, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, the information and interviews present.
