Loganair, the UK’s largest regional airline, will suspend operations at Cornwall Airport Newquay this winter. Daily providers to Manchester and onwards to Aberdeen, along with continuous flights to Edinburgh and Newcastle, can be utterly suspended between November 2022 and March 2023.   In all, nearly 300 flights scheduled to Newquay over the approaching winter season have been withdrawn from the airline’s schedule.   

A spokesperson for Loganair stated: “It’s with a heavy coronary heart that we’ve taken the choice to withdraw our whole winter Newquay programme and to curtail our Summer 2023 plans too.   Despite all the challenges that the pandemic has delivered, we’ve labored extremely laborious during the last two years to construct up our presence at Cornwall Airport Newquay.   We’re most upset that short-sighted and short-term selections by the airport’s administration to incentivise unsustainable operations by different airways go away no prospect of winter flights remaining viable, significantly towards a backdrop of excessive gasoline costs and rising inflation.

“In the meantime, we’ll be directing our efforts towards other UK regional airports such as Southampton, Exeter and Cardiff, where airport managements recognise and appreciate the enormous value that year-round, sustainable regional air services can bring to their communities and local economies.” 

In an additional blow to Cornwall’s connectivity, summer season routes linking Newquay with Teesside and onwards to Inverness is not going to return in 2023, and deliberate progress on different routes is to be redirected to different UK airports.   

Loganair has contacted all clients with ahead winter bookings on the affected routes to supply a change of journey date or refund choices.    Loganair’s Summer 2023 flights at the moment are on sale as regular.
