U.K. Flexes New Muscle in Antitrust Probes Over Microsoft and Amazon

LONDON—The U.Okay’s antitrust company opened probes into Microsoft proposed takeover of Activision Blizzard and into Amazon Inc.’s enterprise practices, solidifying the U.Okay. as a brand new regulatory energy that Silicon Valley should reckon with.

The U.Okay. Competition and Markets Authority stated Wednesday that it was investigating whether or not Microsoft’s $75 billion bid for Activision, the videogame large behind “Call of Duty” and “World of Warcraft,” would cut back competitors in Britain. The probe follows a similar investigation in the U.S. from the Federal Trade Commission.
