DOH News Release: Kaua‘i District Health Office to conduct survey to assess COVID-19 response efforts & emergency preparedness

Posted on Jul 12, 2022 in Latest Department News, Newsroom

LIHUE – The Department of Health’s (DOH) Kaua‘i District Health Office will conduct a Community Assessment for Public Health Emergency Response (CASPER) survey to assess the community’s notion of Kauaʻi’s COVID-19 response efforts and present emergency preparedness degree.

“The responses will help us understand the community’s perception of our COVID-19 response efforts over the past two years and build upon prior CASPER surveys,” mentioned Lauren Guest, Deputy District Health Officer, Kaua‘i District Health Office. “We greatly appreciate the participation of Kaua‘i residents in this island-wide survey effort that enables the Kaua‘i District Health Office to meet our community’s needs before, during, and after a disaster.”

Survey groups will go door-to-door July 26-29 to 30 census tracts which can be weighted in the direction of extra populated areas inside the county. Seven homes inside every tract will likely be chosen to survey. Survey groups are comprised of DOH workers with help from the Kaua‘i Medical Reserve Corps, and the American Red Cross.

The survey takes about 10 minutes and chosen households will likely be requested concerning the ongoing impacts of the pandemic, their notion of Kauaʻi’s COVID-19 response efforts, their emergency preparedness provide ranges, and evacuation plans following a catastrophe. All survey responses will likely be confidential, and survey groups won’t gather names or addresses.

Team members will carry identification playing cards and put on vests figuring out themselves as a part of the DOH survey crew. Survey groups will put on face masks and bodily distancing will likely be noticed. Participating households can also full the survey by cellphone.

The CASPER survey methodology was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to quickly assess the well being and different useful resource wants of a neighborhood after a catastrophe.

This would be the Department of Health’s fifth CASPER survey carried out on Kaua‘i. View prior CASPER survey stories, at: https://health.hawaii.gov/kauai/
